61. Floor boards

Cringing as the floor boards creaked. I crept anxiously towards the muffled sounds down the hallway. I could see from the slit under the door the light from the room beyond reflected on the shiny surface of the floor. Crouching down silently and after a moment’s hesitation, I pressed my ear against the key lock. I listened in scared intentment. Soft sobs and the harsh slapping of hand upon flesh was, once again, all I could hear. I clutched my teddy hard as the sound of my sister softly approaching behind me met my ears. She did not, to my surpise hiss and scorn at my being out of bed. Instead she silently took my hand and lead me back to bed.
