The Death of Eden

My mind is plagued with thoughts of why?
and what ifs
Why did you cause this pain?
Why must we suffer?
you, with your never-ending power
surely you could conquer the grip of Death
and send it away, fleeing in fear

But still we hurt.
people fall, hearts broken
nowhere to run
nowhere to hide
cowering at the evil that surrounds us

We try to pin our blame on you
someone so perfect,
so pure.
But deep within, we know.
this is our fault.
Our failure.

If only we'd listened
if only we'd obeyed
but no,
we were selfish
thirsting for the fruit
of knowledge.

Now the Serpent rules.
